About
I have been messing around building things for years. I've shown a few of my projects to folks over the years and they really liked them. So after being encouraged to record my projects for so long I finally decided to create a YouTube channel for my projects. I'm not trying to become famous or earn a living from YouTube. I have better ways of making money and I find the channels that do go for profit end up falling into the same content trap. I prefer to maintain my own freedom of expression and not bend to the will of narrative pushing corporations. I don't have any advertisers or sponsors to keep happy and that suites me just fine.
So why call the channel Tinker-Tinker? It's named after a Fallout 4 companion quote. In the game when you have strong as a companion and you use a workbench in his presence. He really doesn't like it and issues the complaint "Tinker Tinker Tinker!" Well, that's kind of what a due in real life so I found it very fitting.
Part of setting up the YouTube channel was getting a new computer that would be capable of processing 4k video. After setting it up I attached several of my old failed hard drives and attempted some data recovery of my old files. Amongst those recovered files was a copy of the carpenter bee graphic. Seeing how the carpenter bees are always curiously buzzing around me when I'm working on projects around the house I found it to be a fitting mascot for the channel.
If you were expecting to find some grand "mission" statement here I'm sorry but no such statement exists. While I have built and maintained many websites for various size businesses that's not what this is. This is a personal site reminiscent of the type you could find all over the internet in places such as Yahoo! Geocities before the social media boom took most of them offline. I hope some day to see others follow in my footsteps and bring back unrestricted personal sites. People have forgotten the value of the freedom you have when big brother doesn't have control over your content.
If you have your own website shoot me an email with a link. I don't mind sharing interesting content with my visitors.
