Forging Grape Vine T-Post Trellis
I like to make things difficult for no good reason at all. So while the weather was cool I decided to practice my forging skills by hammering out 12 sets of T-Post grape vine trellis attachements. There are a millions ways I could have done this that would have been both cheaper and much much easier. Still I like to make things that will last a lifetime, and these being made out of steel will do that. I do plan to convert an entire acre of my property into a full vinyard, but I won't be doing that with these.
I do like this style of grape trellis with the canopy wires on the top, but there are much simpler and cheaper ways to do it, that will last long enough to serve the purpose. The rest of the vinyard will be done with wood post which I will harvest from my own property, and char for preservation. To make the top cross bar I will simply use a halflap joint and a couple of carriage bolts to attache a log cross beam. My cost will then be in propane for charring the posts, and the carriage bolts used for assembly.
